When you’re marked for wearing dentures sometime in the future, your cosmetic dentist may recommend installing mini dental implants (MDIs). As their name implies, MDIs are smaller versions of the ordinary dental implants but are specifically designed to help lock the dentures in place. While MDIs are touted as a bit more affordable than regular implants, there are some issues that can help determine the final bill.
One of the more prominent factors that will affect the final cost of the procedure is the amount of information revealed in the testing. These often determine whether both or either the upper or lower jaws will be treated and how many MDIs are needed. Extra charges may be reaped in the treatments used to prepare the mouth for the procedure such as the administration of anesthetics. Other variables include the brand of implants used and the number of follow-up visits for fittings and adjustments.
Some cosmetic dental practitioners estimate that an array of four MDIs can cost between $3,000 and $4,000, as opposed to getting implants and crowns for each tooth. The latter is pegged to fetch tens of thousands of dollars. However, while the cost of MDI-supported dentures are still high, they prevent accidental slippage at the most inappropriate moment.
